'Like 100 concerts letting out at the

nightmare after 2017 eclipse

News 5 has been working to prepare you and your family for weeks for the solar eclipse. Much of Northeast Ohio is in the coveted path of totality on April 8th. As that date inches closer, the anticipation of logistical nightmares on the roads around your neighborhood grows. In 2017, Dana Norris of Kent traveled with her husband and then three-year-old son to the path of totality. The family watched the world go dark for a moment in Southern Kentucky. The drive down was trouble-free, taking about five hours. The drive home, though, was something the family couldn't have prepared for.

Comments:

If you're planning on experiencing the upcoming eclipse, be prepared for a traffic nightmare.

We plan on going to far rural Missouri, by small, back roads the last 50 miles. I wonder how much traffic there will be? We were in Wyoming for the last one, and about 100 miles north of the Colorado line, the interstate was a parking lot. So, we went off onto smaller roads, headed east and had no problems. The worst was about 30 miles of damned interstate. Won't make that mistake again.

I was in rural Wyoming, north of Cheyenne. We stayed in Cheyenne and drove north to Glendo (102 miles north) for the eclipse. Normally about a 90 minute drive on I-25 took over three hours. Going back to Cheyenne was worse - everyone trying to get out at the same time. Gridlocked traffic for over four hours. Driving down to Denver the day after was almost as bad - heavy traffic all the way. I'll never do it again. We can watch a partial from our driveway (about 70% coverage) with friends and have a much less stressful time.

Drove an hour South of my house and watched the last one in a little park South of St Louis. No traffic getting there and none coming back. I had friends and relatives stuck in traffic for hours who went to Southern Illinois and Nashville TN to watch.

Back in the 90’s I had the tv on getting ready for work and the anchor said Wauseon OH was the best place to view the eclipse. My work was taking me in the area that day. I pulled off on a side road and watched with several other families. When it was over we all went on with our lives. This was before social media and influencers ruining just about everything. Didn’t have to go on any interstates so I can’t say anything about traffic. I’m close enough to the total eclipse and plan to stay inside with the dogs. I’ve heard to keep pets inside so that’s what I’m doing. Hubs will be on the road, hoping he’s far enough away from the craziness.

Saw the one in 2017. Viewed from the cemetery where my parents are buried. Not much of a crowd. Hope all of you have clear viewing.

I drove 90 minutes away to watch the 2017 eclipse. It was a 3 and a half hour drive home. I have no regrets and glad that I made the trip. I won't do it again.

A trailer containing hundreds of Holy Bibles were set on fire and left outside an evangelical Tennessee church on Easter Sunday. Officers from the Mt. Juliet Police and Fire Department responded to a suspicious fire at the intersection of Old Lebanon Dirt Road and Chandler Road outside of Global Vision Bible Church. Deputies reported that the trailer had been dropped off in the middle of the intersection and 'intentionally' set on fire, WKRN News reported. Pastor Greg Locke of Global Vision Bible Church, who had returned from Israel a day prior, was shocked when he learned what happened at his church on the Holy Day.

It used to be when you turn 65, most people put down the work and retire. However, the newest trend is "unretiring," with as many as 20% of older workers rejoining the labor market in their 60s and 70s. As of late 2023, there were nearly twice the percentage of Americans over age 65 working compared to the 1980s, according to Pew Research.

A clip shared widely online appeared to show a London police officer suggesting that under certain circumstances swastikas paraded in public could be legal, despite Britain’s tough restrictions on so-called hate speech. In the clip filmed at a pro-Palestinian rally on Saturday, the officer was heard telling a Jewish woman: “I don’t have an in-depth knowledge of signs and symbols. I know the swastika was used by the Nazi party during their inception and the period of them being in power in Germany in 1934… I’m aware of that.”

Al-Ansari proceeded to reach out to “lone wolves” on Telegram, urging them to “target Christians and Jewish people, especially in the US, Europe, and Israel during the holy month of Ramadan.”

There are few more joyous places for a Christian at Easter than northern Europe's tallest and largest Gothic cathedral in the city of Cologne.[SNIP] Perhaps we should not be surprised. In Britain, Windsor Castle hosted its first Iftar last week, with permission from King Charles, the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Guests feasted on coconut milk and dates in the grounds before a private tour of the State apartments. Westminster Abbey, meanwhile – a Christian site for over 1,000 years – flew the national flag of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, with the Muslim crescent and star, to mark 'Pakistan Day'.

An allegedly ISIS-tied Egyptian man was arrested in France in connection to a suspected terrorist plot against the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. French officers of the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) arrested a 62-year-old Egyptian with reported links to the so-called Islamic State in Paris earlier this month on suspicion of planning an attack on the Notre Dame Cathedral. While his arrest was initially reported at the time, the suspected terrorist’s ties to ISIS, his nationality, and his alleged planned attack on the medieval Catholic cathedral, which is still being repaired after being badly damaged in a 2019 fire, were first reported on Sunday by Le Journal du Dimanche.

The Communist Party of Cuba reportedly banned Christians from celebrating traditional Catholic Holy Week processions across several regions of the country in anticipation of Easter, including processions observed on Good Friday. [SNIP] Initial reports indicated that the Castro regime had limited its prohibitions to the Bayamo-Manzanillo diocese of eastern Cuba, where hundreds took to the streets in mid-March to peacefully demand freedom and object to the inhumane conditions to which communism subjects them. Catholics have prominently led the organization of dissident activity in the country, including priests and nuns.

A mass shooting at a concert hall in Moscow killed more than 130 people. With many others seriously or gravely wounded the number of dead is likely to rise. [SNIP] The question that must be asked, as it has been suggested for some time, due to our open southern border, is this: Could it happen here? The answer must be an unequivocal yes. In fact, it has already happened here on Sept. 11, 2001. Does anyone seriously think America’s enemies would not be encouraged by that previous attack and the Moscow atrocity to conduct a repeat operation in America?

The Key Bridge was built at a cost (adjusted for inflation) of about $200 million. Replacing it could take a decade and cost $400 million to $800 million dollars, according to experts in what has become a dismal field.” It’ll get worse before it gets better. Livermore, Calif. — Most fast food workers in California will be paid at least $20 an hour beginning Monday when a new law is scheduled to kick in giving more financial security to an historically low-paying profession while threatening to raise prices in a state already known for its high cost of living. Democrats in the state Legislature passed the law last year in part as an acknowledgement that many of the more than 500,000 people who work in fast food restaurants are not teenagers earning some spending money, but adults working to support their families. That includes immigrants like Ingrid Vilorio, who said she started working at a McDonald’s shortly

We always check, and they said to come, and I went. And no one told me to leave,” Hochul also told Politico during an Easter event at the governor’s mansion in Albany.
