Passengers on a Houston-bound Southwest Airlines flight watched in horror Sunday as an engine on the Boeing 737-800 appeared to come apart mid-flight. The flight immediately returned to Denver after crew members noticed a removable sheet of metal covering one of the plane’s engines sheared off during takeoff. In a terrifying video posted on X by ABC’s chief transportation reporter Sam Sweeney, the metal engine cover can be seen whipping in the breeze like paper as it tore loose. In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration said a part of the aircraft called an engine cowling had detached and struck one of the plane’s wing flaps.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Tuesday that combats retail theft and porch piracy, while attacking “leftist jurisdictions” such as California and New York for failing to implement policies that address these crimes.
“Many leftist jurisdictions are enacting policies that ignore retail theft or even encourage it. Those policies are dead on arrival in Florida. We catch criminals and prosecute them,” DeSantis posted on X.
The legislation, set to take effect July 1, will impose stricter penalties for people who steal retail items, swipe packages off porches, and use social media to incite looting. These offenses will mostly be punishable as felonies.
Latino support for President Joe Biden shrunk over his tenure by 12 points, while former President Donald Trump surged among Latinos by three points during the same period, an Axios/Ipsos poll found.
The survey is a warning sign for Biden, who failed to tamp down rising costs amid soaring inflation. It also confirms previous New York Times/Siena College polling.
The Ipsos poll found the following among Latinos:
Trump gained 29 points on Biden since he assumed office in 2021 (53-24).
Biden only holds a three point lead among those who say they intend to vote this November.

Well, not an advertisement from Trump or even an ad itself. It's a critique of Trump by a liberal that inadvertently makes the case for the former president that will appeal to a good number of people on the fence. If you watch this explainer from a liberal influencer you come away with the idea that it is a parody. It's as if she looked up the polling on all the major issues and decided to tell us that Trump will fulfill our dreams on all of them.
Restrict immigration? Check.
Deport illegals? Check.
Troops at the border? Check.
Ban gender-affirming "care" for children? Check.

In yet another raucous display, a group of anti-Israel protesters marched into the Senate cafeteria on Tuesday to demonstrate against U.S. support of the Jewish state in its war against Hamas in Gaza. The incident is the latest in a series of protests and rallies staged by anti-Israel and pro-Hamas activists arguing against Israel’s effort to eliminate the terrorist group.
The demonstrations resulted in the arrests of 50 people. The activists strode through the building, yelling chants such as “Senate can’t eat until Gaza eats” and “Children are starving in Gaza.” One woman can be seen on video footage wearing a shirt that reads: “Biden’s legacy = Genocide.”
HOUSTON — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing Harris County for its guaranteed income program that helps eligible families in 10 targeted ZIP codes.
Paxton made the announcement Tuesday morning calling the program “unlawful” for “redistributes public money in a manner that violates the Texas Constitution.” Uplift Harris is the county’s first guaranteed income program and provides eligible households with $500 a month for 18 months.
Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee posted a response to Paxton’s lawsuit on X.
“Texas Republicans sued Harris County over our guaranteed basic income pilot program, which uses federal funds to provide $500 per month to some of the lowest income families in the county,”
PHOENIX — The Arizona Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that a 160-year-old near-total abortion ban still on the books in the state is enforceable, a bombshell decision that adds the state to the growing lists of places where abortion care is effectively banned.
The ruling allows an 1864 law in Arizona to stand that made abortion a felony punishable by two to five years in prison for anyone who performs one or helps a woman obtain one. The law — which was codified in 1901, and again in 1913 — includes an exception to save the woman’s life.

A Washington judge ruled the state's high-capacity magazine ban unconstitutional on Monday, but the law will remain in place for now after an emergency order from the state Supreme Court.
Cowlitz County Superior Court Judge Gary Bashor ruled Washington lawmakers' 2022 ban on sales of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds violates both the state and U.S. constitutions, the Seattle Times reported. "There was no appetite to limit gun rights by the Founders. Though the specific technology available today may not have been envisioned, the Founders expected technological advancements," Bashor wrote. "The result is few, if any, historical analogue laws by which a state can justify a modern firearms regulation."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Ukraine will lose the war against Russia unless the U.S. provides further military aid.
According to The Kyiv Independent, Zelensky made the remarks on Sunday during a meeting with the Ukrainian fund-raising group UNITED24.
“It’s important to specifically address the Congress: if the Congress doesn’t help Ukraine, Ukraine will lose the war,” Zelensky said. “If Ukraine loses this war, other countries will be attacked. This is a fact."
The warning is one of the starkest since Russia invaded Ukraine over two years ago, as Congress wrangles over the condition of greenlighting further support.
