Hundreds of thousands of people who have traveled to see Monday’s total solar eclipse across the southern and northeastern United States are likely to be disappointed, as cloud cover and bad weather cover much of the path.
A total solar eclipse is a rare event in which the moon passes directly in front of the sun, casting a dark shadow that lasts a few minutes at any given point, depending on variables such as the distance of the moon from the earth.
The experience is spectacular. During totality, the outer portion of the sun — the corona — is visible, as are stars near the sun, and planets such as Mercury,

It's dark here in North Houston, as we're hours from the umbra. Cue the sad trombones.

Sky just cleared up in Southern IN. We're having a picnic and looking forward to the entire event.

Deep in Total Blackout zone in sunny Clinton, AR. Local Chamber of Commerce busy rending garments, gnashing teeth, and wearing sackcloth because the expected throngs of viewers are nowhere to be seen. Whatever will we do with all these magic sunglasses?
Oh well. I'm having a fish fry this evening. Ya'll come.

I'm in south central PA; it started out sunny this morning but it's getting cloudy. We're supposed to see about 92% coverage by 3:20 PM; eclipse to start around 2:00 PM but 70% cloud cover by 3:00.

We had planned to drive about five hours SE of here to see totality in a rural area, intentionally avoiding cities.
But, last night the predictions were for at least 60% cloud cover down there, and perhaps 95% cloud cover, so we are staying in KC area and will see a partial, but about 95% eclipse.
We drove all day to Wyoming, a day early, for the last one, got great views, and I got some spectacular photos. We'll take this one a bit more casually.
A friend and his wife went to Austin to see it.....predictions are for Austin to be 98% cloud cover.

I'm in NE FL. We're expecting 64% eclipse coverage with whispy clouds so we should have a pretty good view of everything. I ordered my glasses off of Amazon since in 2017, I could not find them ANYWHERE!! We are pretty much set to go.

BTW, I used to live in Northern Vermont and was there in 2017. They had a partial eclipse then but crystal clear skies. Now they are directly in the path of full coverage and are expecting some clouds but a good view. Figures!!

I'm just outside toledo...clear shies this morning but high haze now...apparently news reports that we would have clear shies triggered a tsunami...city population is set to DOUBLE today, if not more, they say as many as 500,000. Warmest day yet this year, I'm mowing lawns, mine, several of my neighbors.
Lit the brushpile this morning, it's down to coals. Methinks I'll get a prime ribeye out and start it thawing.

Very cloudy in Nashville. I saw the briefest little sliver as the clouds broke for a nanosecond. Interesting, though, my pond lights (on a photocell) came on for a few seconds.

Saw a total eclipse about 70 some years ago, in Central Minnesota. My dad smoked some small panes of glass and mom and dad and my 4 siblings drove down by the river in Hutchinson, sat on the hood of dads Oldsmobile and watched the whole thing. It was an experience, but not something I'd drive any great distance to do over. Call me jaded, but I've experienced over 80 years of life, and many were more meaning to me!

Actually, every place the media was broadcasting from experienced an excellent view of the eclipse. The clouds and weather didn't seem to interfere with the viewing at all.

We had clear skies here southwest of KC, great views of about 90% eclipse. Just got over about 5 minutes ago.

Rochester, NY prepped for this for four years. A lot of disappointed people, but it was still awesome, even with clouds so thick you could not find the sun. We knew where it should have been, but just variations of white and gray. At the correct time, 3 to 3:20, it turned into an odd twilight and then full on 3 in the morning dark. It was very quiet and it did get colder. It would have been nice to use the glasses and see the corona, but still a very different and cool experience. I love extreme weather and this is up there as a long term memory, even though the sun and moon weren't visible at all.

Surprisingly clearish skies here in central Ohio for 100% totality, just high whispy clouds. The corona was spectacularly beautiful. Feel like we were very lucky.
